James B. Hogan
James B. Hogan earned his Bachelor of Science degree (1983) and his Masters in Business Administration (1985) from Appalachian State University. After 1985, James worked in his family’s business, Appalachian Outdoor Advertising Co. Inc. He served as president of the corporation from 1993 to until the company was sold in 2001. James then obtained his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2005.
Since graduating from law school, James has practiced law with Starnes Aycock Law Firm in Morganton, North Carolina. James’s practice includes representing clients in civil court, estate planning and probate, real estate closings and personal injury litigation. James has represented numerous commercial clients in contract matters and has assisted clients with corporate issues. He has appeared in North Carolina District and Superior Courts, and in front of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Within the community, James served as treasurer for the Burke County Bar Association from 2006-2009 and was president of the District Bar for the 25th Judicial District in 2008.
James is a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lenoir where he has been a member of the choir since 1986 and served as Choir Director from 2000 to 2002. He has served as a member of the Vestry, and was the Senior Warden in 2014.
James is married to Janis P. Hogan and they live in Lenoir, N.C. They celebrated the 30th anniversary of their wedding on May 17, 2016. They have two sons, James Claywell “Clay” Hogan, II and Paul William Hogan, both of whom are attending college.
